This spring, more than 2800 people signed to put Jordan Villas on the ballot as the Working Class Party candidate in the 12th Illinois State Senate District.
But a legal challenge searched for every possible way to throw out as many people’s signatures as possible – and they found more than 1400 to disqualify. As a result, they got the Board of Elections to rule Jordan off the ballot.
While the Democratic incumbent will now appear as the only candidate on the ballot, Jordan is registered as a write-in candidate. Voters in this district can still express their support for the ideas Jordan stands for and can protest the undemocratic functioning of the election system by writing in “Jordan Villas” for State Senate.
